PARKOUR FOR SCHOOLS

 Hello everyone!

How are you doing?

Do you want to know more about Parkour?

Parkour is a movement activity that promotes health and fitness whilst teaching young people to master their bodies and minds.

The term ‘Parkour’ originating in France in the 1980s, was adopted from 1998. It derives from the French word ‘parcours’ meaning ‘route’ or ‘course’.  Used interchangeably, “Parkour, Freerunning, Art Du Deplacement, is the non-competitive physical discipline of training to move freely over and through any terrain using only the abilities of the body, principally through running, jumping, climbing and quadrupedal movement.” Whilst there is no set list of moves those that are often practiced are:

  • running towards a wall and then jumping and pushing off the wall with a foot to reach the top of the wall
  • moving from a position hanging from a wall-top or ledge, to standing on the top or vaulting over to the other side
  • Vaulting over obstacles
  • jumping and landing accurately with the feet on small or narrow obstacles
  • jumping and catching a ledge with the hands while the feet land on the vertical surface below.
  • using a rolling motion to help absorb large impacts

ANOTHER SPOOKY GAME!

Hello friends!

How's it going? It's been a while! Needless to say, the start of the 2020-2021 school year has been a wild one. I've been meaning to share how things have been going in my teaching but it seems that each day brings a new challenge or adventure.

As I get back into the swing of things, here is a resource that I think you might like! The game is called “Ghostbusters”, another spooky and fleeing game designed to help you explore tactics, resolve conflicts, and practice emotional self-regulation.

That's it for now! I hope you have a great week! Just in case you haven't heard it recently, the work you do is important and meaningful. Know that it's ok to have off days and you can't go full throttle all of the time. Just being you is enough, so remember to take moments to feel proud of the efforts you are making in these times of great uncertainty. You've got this!

Take care and enjoy!

YOGA FOR KIDS

Yoga is an old discipline from India. It is both spiritual and physical. Yoga uses breathing techniques, exercise and meditation. It claims to improve health and happiness.

Yoga is the Sanskrit word for union.
Patanjali was a pioneer of classical yoga. He defined yoga as "the cessation of the modification of the mind". (stopping changing the mind).

A person doing yoga will move from one posture (called asana) to another. For example, the "sun-salutation" contains 12 poses of asanas, one after the other, and is said to help balance body and soul. The "sun-salutation" is popularly known as "Suryanamaskar".
